9 weeks 2 days

Today I am 9 weeks and 2 days pregnant! Isn't it amazing that they can be that specific about when you conceived?! My new favorite book is What To Expect When You're Expecting. My favorite thing about this book is that it tells you what changes are happening in your baby week by week. It also lets you know what you should expect to change in your body month by month and what to expect at each doctor's appointment. Here are the changes that will be occuring with little Baby Birke this week...
  • Our baby has grown to approximately 1 inch in length.
  • His or her head is continuing to develop and take on more baby-like proportions. Funny story: As you know, babies are pretty much all-head at first. At our second ultrasound, Chris tried to make a joke by announcing that our baby was going to be a genius. When I asked him why, he said because our baby has a huge brain! The nurse, with a very serious face, looked over and said," Um..all babies have large heads in the beginning." I thought it was pretty funny :)
  • Tiny muscles are starting to form allowing our baby to move his or her arms and legs.
  • Our baby's heartbeat might be audible via a Doppler device at our practitioner's office.

Everyone keeps asking me how I'm feeling. I feel great! When I looked at the book's long list of symptoms I may be experiencing, I felt so lucky that I'm only experiencing a couple. The biggest one for me is that I'm tired a lot. My doctor nailed it on the head when she said that I could be sitting on the couch for a couple hours and feel the same exhaustion as if I had did a power workout for a couple hours. I feel like the toilet is my second home because I'm peeing so much! I really don't mind either of those symptoms that much. I've always heard horror stories about pregancy, but so far it's been great! I feel so lucky that I'm the one carrying our baby! Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking forward to labor but I told Chris the other day that if I were a guy, I would feel like I was getting ripped off! When he disagreed with me, I started naming all the cool things a woman gets to experience during pregnancy. He reassured me that he was 100% okay with me being able to experience these "cool" things and him not ;)

I've been craving sour and salty things (not together) like pickles, oranges, tomatoes, mustard, and mexican food. I've been really grossed out by basically any food that is thick and white...like mayo, sour cream, and cream cheese. I'm totally happy about that because if it's thick and white, it's usually not healthy anyways! I hate celery right now too...I'm getting queasy just thinking about it. YUCK!

I haven't gained any weight yet but I definitely don't feel like I'm maintaining! My jeans still fit, but they're a little snug in the lower belly area. My belly is forming a little bump :) Lucky for me, most of my shirts are loose and flowey in the belly area anyways...so you can't really see the bump. I've completely stopped wearing any shirt that isn't flowey because it looks like I'm just getting a belly instead of that I'm pregnant!

Chris is doing great with the whole thing. Here lately he won't let me lift anything. Side note-neither will my Mom! I went to the grocery store with her the other day and she about had a cow when I went to lift a box of cokes for her! Chrissy got onto me for jogging down the hallway at our house! I think a 5 second jog is okay! The other day, it took me about 30 seconds into our drive to put my seatbelt on and Chris made sure to tell me I should put it on :) Chris has been totally supportive of me and my eating healthy. He always makes sure to tell me that I'm doing a great job of eating healthy :) We've been walking a couple miles each night too.

I will do an update like this each week. Our next doctor's appointment is at the end of this month. I'll be sure to blog about that too :)

This is my old bunny and blanket I blogged about.

David and Andrea bought both of their boys a stuffed animal before they were born. Mason's stuffed animal is Froggy and Nolan's is Doggy. We got this horse in the mail from them a few days ago! It looks like our baby will be packing around Horsey :) Isn't it adorable? We love it! Thanks David and Andrea!

I totally understand the feeling of that in-between stage. You are not big enough for maternity clothes, but in your regular clothes, you just look like you've gained some weight. For me, this was one of the worst parts of being pregnant. THE worst part of being pregnant (for me) was when they had to put in an I.V. before delivery ...ouch!!
