Who would have thought that this baby girl ...

and this baby boy ...

would get married ...

and have this baby boy.

On May 10, 2008 I married my best friend. Two years and one baby later and I'm more in love than the day we said "I do."

I wrote a blog post when we first got engaged about how we met and how Chris proposed. If you're in the mood for a looong story, you can click here and read it :)

out of the mouth of my husband

Last night Chris fed Lincoln his dinner. When he was finished, he put Lincoln in his exersaucer next to the table so we could eat ours. Lincoln did not like this and immediately started to fake cry.

Chris put down his fork and with the most serious voice said, "Lincoln, I didn't cry while you were trying to eat."

Needless to say, Lincoln continued on.

out of the mouth of my husband ... part 2

Those of you Nightmare Before Christmas lovers are really going to appreciate this.

There's a song in the movie where the people in Halloweentown are singing about Jack's odd behavior.

It goes like this:

Something's up with Jack
Something's up with Jack
Don't know if we're ever going to get him back

He's all alone up there
Locked away inside
Never says a word
Hope he hasn't died

Something's up with Jack
Something's up with Jack

I overheard my sweet husband singing this song shortly after we had finished cleaning up Lincoln's explosion that had spread all the way up to the top of his back. The words were a little different than the original ...

Something's up with Linc
Something's up with Linc

He made a stink
He made a stink

Daddy had to get a Meijer bag
Then he handed it to Meg

Something's up with Linc
Something's up with Linc

you are my sunshine

This is what I found on our kitchen chalkboard ...

Chris, to say that you make me happy when skies are gray would be an understatement, but that's exactly what you did for me every time I walked into the kitchen on this rainy day.

You'll never know dear how much I love you

You asked for it ...

Megan recently asked her blog readers to ask me questions ... Some of you took her up on the request. So, here are your questions and my answers. Thanks, Chris

What’s my dream date? Megan is fond of the simple pleasures of life and she’s teaching me to appreciate them more. I recall going to great lengths in attempts to create “dream dates” for Megan only to later discover that she prefers slow dancing in our living room, cuddling, moonlit strolls and takeout from McAllister’s. I’ve learned that “dream dates” can’t really be planned and definitely can’t be bought. They just happen—usually in quiet places when it’s just the two of us.

Favorite dish that Megan makes? Megan has lots of incredible recipes and loves to cook. My favorite constantly changes but today I think it’s her homemade pizza, a recipe that was passed down to her from her grandfather. I’m sure I can get her to post it if she hasn’t already.

Favorite place you've visited? This would have been a tough question a few years ago because I’ve traveled a lot and I think I would have had a 10-way tie for my favorite. But on our honeymoon, Megan and I spent a day at Discovery Cove in Orlando, Fla. It was the closest I’ve ever come to having a perfect day … so it would be my favorite.

Favorite part of being a new dad? Falling in love at first sight with my little baby boy was a completely overwhelming and wonderful moment. Just being with him and loving him is my favorite part of fatherhood.

Worst part of being a new dad? I am constantly worried about him. Will he continue to be healthy? How will he ever grow to be a godly man in this messed up world? Is he still breathing? I better check. You name it, I’ve worried about it.

How does it feel to be the son-in-law of a living legend? Is it intimidating? I’ll admit there’s a bit of an intimidation factor being Mike’s son-in-law. He’s a very strong guy who I know could snap my neck with one hand while polishing his rifle with the other. The good news for me is that I know Mike is on my side. Mike and Leigh Ann were supportive of me dating Megan from day 1 and they’ve been incredibly generous to boot. Let me take this opportunity to brag on my very giving in-laws: Mike and Leigh Ann took us to Panama City for a weeklong vacation, paid for our dream wedding, have taken us out to eat dozens of times, gave us a car, invite us over every Sunday for a huge and delicious dinner, buy Lincoln tons of clothes and watch him whenever we ask. And instead of saying goodbye to us, Mike usually ends our time together by saying: “Let me know if you need anything.” By the way, we’ve been double blessed because my parents also are super giving.

How many children do you plan to have? I’ve learned that God laughs at our plans so who knows! It’s been awhile since Megan and I talked about this … but the last time we did, we both said we’d like to have at least two and maybe three. We also have talked about adopting. But we’re open to whatever God wants. It’s funny that He gave us Lincoln so early into our marriage. It wasn’t our plan to get pregnant a month after saying our vows, but it certainly has been a huge blessing. He’s only been around four months and already I can’t imagine life without the little guy.

What made you fall in love with Megan? I got to know Megan slowly … We led Wednesday night worship together for two years at our old church and became good friends. Then, one day, it dawned on me that I wanted to be more than Megan’s friend. It was like the light came on. The next thing I knew, I literally couldn’t stop thinking about Megan—her smile, laugh, voice, and complete goodness. I found myself counting down the hours until our next practice session. It was there that I told her how I felt. After dating for a few weeks, I knew for sure that I was in love. It was very easy to fall head over hills. She lives for God, strives for purity, is honest, caring, giving, makes me laugh until I hurt, and can whip up a mean homemade pizza. By the way, seeing her care for our son makes me love her even more. She’s incredible.

Happy Father's Day!

Chris,

I've heard that the best thing a father can do for his children is love their mother. If that's true, being a dad should be a breeze for you :) I will never forget how supportive you were during Lincoln's birth and the crazy weeks that followed. You've been a great dad from day 1. I love watching you read to Lincoln and seeing Lincoln's face light up when you sing to him. Our favorite part of the day every day, is when you get home from work. We love you so much. Seeing how much you love Lincoln simply melts my heart. Happy 1st Father's Day, Chris!

only my husband ...

would make smiley faces with the vegetables from his veggie soup :)

Speaking of my husband---he has been putting off getting his hair cut for quite some time. His hair is on it's way to looking like it did in this post. That's why last night, when our friend Rachel spotted us at the ROCK meeting, she thought I was with another man! Can you tell that I love linking to things?

The meeting was held at Kyes, which got me thinking ...

I can't believe it was just a little over a year ago that we walked down those stairs,

and ate that cake,

and drank that fake bubbly,

and danced on that floor.

Sigh

Memories ...

Oh Happy Night Day!!!

Guess why Lincoln is SO HAPPY today?!

Because he slept ALL NIGHT! Lincoln had his two month appointment with Dr. Howell on Monday. She suggested I start giving Lincoln two teaspoons of rice cereal as often as I give him a bottle. She thought it would help him keep his food down better and also make him feel more content after eating. I gave him his first bottle with cereal before he went to bed last night and he loved it. He went to bed at 11:00 p.m. and woke up at 8:30 this morning!! I felt a little panicky when I woke up this morning and realized he hadn't gotten up during the night. Chris and I tip toed into his room and he was sleeping on his side, (he had almost rolled over) sucking his thumb. It was so precious! I don't know if it's from the 9 1/2 hours of uninterruped sleep, but Lincoln and I are both feeling pretty happy today!

Just when I thought the day couldn't get any better, Chris surprised me by coming home and bringing me my favorite coffee! My husband is the sweetest.

Lincoln was happy to see his daddy.

At Lincoln's appointment we also found out that he weighs 12.8 lbs and is 24 inches long, putting him in the 75th percentile for weight and the 90th percentile for height! Chris and I both feel very strongly about delaying vaccinations and not giving combination shots. So I talked to Dr. Howell about our concerns and she was comfortable with putting him on an alternative schedule. We were very happy to hear that. Lincoln had to get a shot, but he did great. He just continued cooing as if nothing happened. All in all, it was a good appointment.

This is kind of random, but here are some pictures from this weekend that I forgot to post ...

We went to my grandparent's house for lunch on Saturday. Lincoln hung out with his Poppy most of the time.

Lincoln snuggling with his Uncle Josh ... who happened to get his braces off today :)

We had Chris Morgan over for dinner and then we went to a coffee shop called Quills.

While I'm on a roll with the randomness, I'd like to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my cousin Jon!

out of the mouth of my husband :)

-On Saturdays, Chris will sometimes take Lincoln in the morning so I can get an hour or two of sleep. One morning I woke up and started making my way down the hall, and I heard Chris say to Lincoln in a very excited voice, "Here comes Breakfast!" Breakfast ... that would be me, in case you're wondering.

-I told Chris that Lincoln would probably say his name first (because babies tend to say Daddy/Dad/Daa Daa before Mommy/Mom/Momma). Chris looked at me like I was crazy and said, "No. He will definitely say your name first. Chris is a really hard name to say!" I started laughing and said, "Lincoln won't be calling you Chris." :)

-A few days ago, Chris asked me if Lincoln was sleeping through the night. I responded with, "Are you serious?" He was.

Chris can always make me laugh. On a more serious note, I am so thankful for Chris. He is such a wonderful husband and father. I feel so lucky to be his wife :)

Here he is reading to Lincoln.

Another thing Chris likes to do with Lincoln is tummy time. Lincoln seems to enjoy it too!

I'm so in love

I cannot even describe how in love I am. The love I have for Lincoln is just overwhelming. And I could not be more in love with Chris than I am right now. Seeing him with our son has made me fall even more in love with him. I am so blessed!

Last night was kind of rough. Lincoln was simply inconsolable. His tummy was making all sorts of sounds and I'm pretty sure he had a belly ache. So we didn't get much sleep. Today has been a great day though. I went to change Lincoln's diaper and he had taken the mother load of all poops--which we think was the issue bothering him last night. When I put the cold wipe to his bottom, he peed across the room and a little got on me. I yelled to Chris that Lincoln had just peed across the room. When Chris got back there, we removed the old diaper to put the new one on and right about that moment, he took another huge poopy on the changing table! The good news is that ever since he did that, he has been super happy.

My parents, Josh, and Brittany came by to see Lincoln today.

Kathy and Denny visited today too but Lincoln was sleeping for most of the time. So I didn't get any pictures. Besides eating and being burped, Lincoln's favorite thing to do is bounce in his infant bouncy seat.

Here's Lincoln waving to everyone in blogworld!

"I have loved you with an everlasting love."

Lisa Griffin, a friend of ours from Chris' work, painted this sweet plate for Lincoln. It says "Lincoln - 'I have loved you with an everlasting love.' Jer. 31:3" We love it!

I've had irregular contractions today. Chris and I are going to our appointment with Dr. Riely in the morning. Hopefully I will have progressed and will be able to update you with some good news!

I've noticed that something has been going on with Chris for the past few weeks. He's been treating Rufus like he's his baby! Don't get me wrong ... Rufus IS our baby, but Chris has been taking it to a whole new level. Between the kissing, rocking, cradling, and singing I'm sure of it---Chris NEEDS Lincoln to hurry up and get here! :) Of course, Rufus is loving it. As crazy as this may sound, we believe that Rufus knows there's a change coming.

Here is a picture of Rufus and his BFF Chris :)

caffeine free coke ... the sixth love language

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I LOVE drinking a coke. Chris and I don't keep them in the house because they aren't the healthiest thing for you, and I would just devour them. Something we laugh about is when Chris and I reward ourselves with a drink of our choice, he always chooses something like a Starbucks, a blended mocha, or a Godiva Chocolate Belgian Blend. I always choose a Coke :)

Throughout my pregnancy I've had an occasional coke but for the most part I've drank juice and water. When I started having problems with my heart racing, Dr. Riely suggested I cut out all caffeine. On Sunday, I mentioned to my mom how much I hate drinking juice right now. After 37 weeks, it's starting to get old! Chris and my mom both asked why I didn't just get a caffeine free coke. I replied that I hated diet Coke. Then, they informed me that there is such a thing as a regular caffeine free Coke!!! I don't know how I managed to go through almost my entire pregnancy without knowing this! I couldn't believe it.

When Chris got home from work yesterday, he said he had a surprise for me. He had bought me two caffeine free Cokes from his work. This might sound crazy but I don't care ... it melted my heart! Of course, I made a big deal out of it and thanked him throughout the night. We both have read The Five Love Languages book and took the quiz. Receiving Gifts got the lowest score for me. At one point last night, Chris joked "If only I knew that receiving gifts was your love language!" I reminded him that Receiving Gifts was what made me feel loved the least of all five love languages. He then said that there must be a sixth love language ... receiving cokes. I love my husband :)

Picture Perfect Valentine's Day

We moved Valentine's Day to Friday this year in an attempt to avoid the crowds. It didn't work. But even though Olive Garden and the Great Escape were swarming with people, Chris and I had a wonderful time.

Chris and I decided awhile back that we weren't going to spend a lot on each other for Valentine's Day. When Chris got home from work he surprised me with a not so inexpensive gift! He had blown up and framed three of our favorite wedding pictures. They look amazing! He also wrote sweet messages to me on the back of the frames. I've got to say ... I love what he wrote to me just as much as I love the pictures. I guess I can't be mad at him for breaking the rules :) This Valentine's Day was the best ever simply because I'm married to my best friend this year. It doesn't get much better than that ...

Here are the pictures Chris bought me!

We are going to hang them up like this in our bedroom.

my sweet husband and baby :)

We had our doctor's appointment yesterday and everything was great with Lincoln! We didn't get any good pictures from our ultrasound because the little stinker kept his back to us the whole time. The good news is that we get to go back in 4 weeks for another ultrasound because they couldn't get a good look at his face (to check for cleft lip and palate). Yea! We love ultrasounds. A lot of women only have 1 or 2 ultrasounds their entire pregnancy and we've had 5 so far!

The doctor said that everything was great with me too. My placenta has moved away from the cervix and she thinks it will continue to move away as the pregnancy progresses :) She also told me that I was right on track with my weight gain! Yea!

An update about our car: We figured out what was wrong with it...the starter, the front axil, and it's sparkplugs. We decided it wouldn't be too smart to put a lot of money into repairing it, since it may not last that much longer. We had to repair the starter so it would at least run. We are going to trade it in when we are ready to buy a new car. Until then, we are going to limp on one car and save like crazy.

On a happier note--Chris and I had a wonderful evening at home. We ate spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. We took Rufus for a walk and then we went to Coffee Crossing. When we got home, Chris lit the candles and we danced to The Way You Look Tonight--the first song we ever danced to at our wedding. It doesn't get much sweeter than that :) I'm so blessed. I have a healthy baby and the sweetest husband in the world! Love you, Chris!

the cost of love

Chris surprised me with flowers he had picked from the back yard. Little did he know that he had been messing with poison ivy :(

Chris, I absolutely adore you. I am so thankful that God blessed me with such a loving, funny, creative, passionate, bold, husband who loves God! I know this is going to be an amazing year for you. You are the best husband and I know you are going to be the best father too. I am completely smitten and so proud to be your wife. I love you! Happy Birthday :)

"May I marry your daughter?"

Today my neighbor asked my Mom how it felt to be famous. When she asked him what he meant, he informed her that her future son in law had written an article about us in the Outlook this past week. Of course, we had no idea! The article is titled "May I marry your daughter?" because it's about him asking my Dad's permission to propose to me. It also talks about the marital advice we've received throughout our engagement.

If you want to read the article, click HERE!!! It's a classic ;-) Chris writes very well. I'm sure that if my neighbor hadn't mentioned it, we would have never known about it at all! But I think that makes it even more sweet! I always love finding out that someone has complimented me when I wasn't present, and they didn't have any intentions of me finding out that they had said something nice. EVERYONE can say nice things to your face...but it's when someone says nice things behind your back that you feel like, "WOW-this person actually speaks the same of me when I'm gone as when I'm present?!?" I'm sure you know what I mean...

On a side note--my Mom and I started painting mine and Chris' bedroom today. We only have the tinted primer on so far...but we can already tell it's going to look great! I'll post the before and after pictures when were done painting.
